Downtown Bryan businesses keep doors open late for Third Thursday

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The first-ever Third Thursday Shop & Stroll event will be happening in Downtown Bryan on June 20.

Several retail merchants are coming together to promote their small businesses by extending store hours every third Thursday of each month. Select stores will remain open until 8 p.m. with some offering special Third Thursday discounts, live music, and local art inside their shops.

Store owner Cindy Roberts organized the event to encourage the community to shop locally and enjoy the essence of the historic downtown.

Unlike First Friday, Roberts said Third Thursday is an opportunity for people to check out the brick-and-mortar businesses that work tirelessly to maintain their downtown shops.

“We have such a diverse group of shops downtown,” Roberts said. “We hope this monthly event will allow people to experience all the downtown retail offerings in a relaxed atmosphere.”

The new monthly event will include several small businesses that provide different shopping experiences in each store. Furniture, antiques, glasswork, and clothing are just some of the things you can shop for during the Shop & Stroll event.

“The main thing we want to do is support our locally-owned businesses,” Roberts said. “Whether we’ve been in business for more than 40 years like Burr’s, or just a few years like our Main Street neighbor, Itza Bip, we want everyone to know we have a little bit of everything to offer.”

Roberts said each Third Thursday will have a theme and this month’s theme will be “gold” to celebrate The Attic Antiques 50th year of business.
