CSPD: Driver trying to flee police drove into oncoming traffic on Texas Avenue

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A College Station man remains behind bars Monday afternoon after leading officers on a pursuit Sunday evening.

Police say after observing a traffic violation, they attempted to stop Kevin Rugumbira, 27, in the area of Texas Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

Officers say Rugumbira refused to pull over for the officer and continued southbound on Texas Avenue.

During the vehicle pursuit, police say Rugumbira drove into oncoming traffic, nearly causing several head-on collisions.

Upon seeing this, police say they immediately terminated the pursuit due to Rugumbira’s dangerous driving, but they later found the vehicle wrecked out in the 400 block of Dominik Drive near George Bush Drive.

Rugumbira ran from the scene of the wreckage but was later found hiding under a pickup truck in the area of the 600 block of University Oaks Boulevard. When officers found him under the pickup, they say he then ran again from police but was captured in the 500 block of Harvey Road while running through a breezeway at an apartment building.

He’s now facing multiple charges including evading arrest with a vehicle and evading arrest with a previous conviction.
