Couple combines passion for fitness, baking in same building
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A BCS couple is putting their own spin on health and fitness.
They’ve put their businesses, the CrossFit Obey gym and the Kettlebell’s Sweets & Treats bakery, in the same building.
It’s located at 410 West Carson Street in Bryan.
On Friday, Feb. 23, they’ll celebrate a re-grand opening of the gym and the grand opening of the bakery at 5 p.m.
The couple, Luke Ketelaar and Chelsea Ketelaar, said it’s been their goal for about a year to combine their businesses in this way.
“We started praying about it and just think that the Lord blessed us in that,” Chelsea Ketelaar said.
The gym used to be located on Dellwood Street in Bryan but now has more space and equipment on Carson Street.
Luke said he’s passionate about creating supportive fitness experiences.
“We’re going to make sure that you’re safe for the biggest thing, but also that you’re having fun and that you’re with people you enjoy being around,” Luke said.
Along with being in the new space, the gym owner is excited to share it with his wife.
“I love her stuff,” Luke said.
Kettlebell’s Sweets & Treats specializes in gluten-free desserts. The bakery is a space where visitors can sit and enjoy some coffee and sweet treats like cookies and cupcakes.
Chelsea started baking gluten-free desserts about two years ago. She was having stomach aches and started eliminating gluten and dairy from her diet.
She later realized neither caused her stomach issues but started baking for those with allergies to the two.
“I just started making gluten-free treats and sold those on my personal Facebook and they sold and then I just did it again and it just kind of grew over time,” Chelsea said.
After Friday, the bakery will be open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
