Corps of Cadets pass off leadership at March to the Brazos 2024
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – On Saturday morning more than 2,000 members of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and members of the Office of the Commandant’s Staff marched all the way from the Texas A&M campus to the Texas A&M Beef Center located off of Highway 60 not far from the Brazos River.
The March to the Brazos tradition allows the Corps to pass the torch of leadership. This was its 48th year. After they arrive at the river, the Corps conducts a symbolic passing of positions to the next class year.
Caitlyn Walsh, who was transferring her leadership as Corps Commander, said the tradition is a way to reflect and have fun on the March to their location.
“Especially as a Senior, and honestly the most special part for me, was just passing the torch to DeAndre who is replacing me next year. And I couldn’t be more excited for him or more proud of him,” Walsh said.
The Corps got up early around 6 a.m. and the last group came in around 2 p.m. DeAndre Marci was the Corps Sergeant Major and he transitioned to the Corps Commander.
“My favorite thing is the march here and then the march back, getting those opportunities to connect, talk with old leadership about to leave and have those great stories of Corp memories and everything like that,” Marcri said.
The walk back to campus symbolizes the upcoming school year. The round-trip march is 18 miles.
