Construction at Century Square is attracting more customers for on-site businesses
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – You may have seen the construction in front of Century Square when you’re driving past on University Drive and that’s because Century Square is in Phase II of construction.
In addition to the ChopShop, CoCo Shrimp, Sephora, and Wells Fargo, other retail and dining businesses are expected to open.
Uptown Brunch, a New Orleans breakfast spot, and Trufusion and Renew You, health and wellness studios, will be making their way to the new addition of Century Square.
These businesses have agreed to be tenants in the area adjacent to Texas A&M’s campus under Century Square’s Phase II construction.
Phase II is 31,000 square feet of development with an additional 125 parking spaces and a 5,000 square-foot gathering plaza space serving as an extension of the green at Century Square.
Phase II Press Release:
“The thing we are most excited about is this additional 5,000 square feet behind me of public space. Because the green, they do such a great job of activating it and we are really excited about utilizing some additional public space,” said Brian Piscacek, the assistant director of economic development for College Station. “The city is super excited about the expansion opportunities here, we understand a good amount of it is already pre-leased we can’t wait for it to open up later this year. They’ve announced retailers already.”
KBTX also spoke with Juanita’s Tex Mex Cantina about how Phase II has affected them.
Simon King, the General Manager of Juanita’s Tex Mex Cantina in Century Square, said they have customers who ask about the eye-catching construction every day.
“Guests are asking me what restaurants are coming, what new businesses are coming, if I know when it is going to be finished, and I am excited just as they are,” said King.
Even though the construction is not finished yet, King said their business has increased.
“We are getting a lot of families that are coming out that are interested in the construction, they are interested to see what is happening here in Century Square, and from them walking around and seeing everything that we have here and all the great opportunities we have here, they come out to my restaurant and want to try out Juanita’s so I’m really appreciative and thankful for that,” said King.
And with Popstroke, a new minigolf venue, opening in August near Century Square, Visit College Station says the area will be the main attraction in College Station.
“This is for residents, this is for students, this is for families, it’s for visitors, it’s for corporate gatherings, it’s community events. This is going to continue to be kind of the center of the universe for the community with everything it offers from a retail standpoint,” said Piscacek.
Visit College Station said that Century Square is the number one commercial property taxpayer in College Station bringing tax revenue, jobs, activities, and higher-end retailers. They’re expecting Phase II will increase the attraction Century Square already brings to the city.
