Community takes a step back in time at Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos Heritage Society hosted its annual Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration at Heritage Park on Thursday.

What started as a small neighborhood event around 30 years ago has evolved into a community-wide celebration, but one that still holds onto many aspects of its origin.

The family-friendly atmosphere featured community exhibits and a patriotic children’s parade set to a soundtrack of old-timey times.

”Looking to the future, you have to nod to the past, and that’s kind of what we do with our music and that’s what you all are doing here. And so to be a part of it, it’s a tremendous honor,” Pendulum Hearts vocalist and guitar player Chase Risinger said.

Brazos Heritage Society president Stephanie Hilliard said keeping the event accessible to anyone who wants to come helps to preserve its traditions.

”This is like a nice continuation of that. It carries forward that community feeling, that focus on celebrations that they’ve always had,” Hilliard added.

For the past three years, Austin-based band Pendulum Hearts has made the trip to Bryan to play at the celebration.
