College Station Fire Department partners with the Junior League of BCS for Stuff the Bus
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX)—The 2024-2025 school year is just around the corner, which means it’s time to get school supplies.
But for some families, it’s just too expensive, and that’s why Stuff the Bus with the Junior League of Bryan-College Station is back.
“As a member of the community and as a former teacher, it is a great feeling to know that kids don’t have to be nervous about that, and that’s one less thing to stress about,” JLBCS member Kim Sailor said.
This year JLBCS has partnered with the College Station Fire Department to gather supplies and firefighters will be outside the H-E-B Tower Point Location, next to the pharmacy entrance, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The firefighters have their truck parked right out front and are happy to give kids a tour of the inside.
President of the Firefighters Association, Brian Johnson, is excited to be part of the fundraiser.
“It makes us feel great to know that we’re helping out kids that otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford these school supplies and being able to get them that,” Johnson said. “We really feel like this is a great opportunity.”
They’re hoping to raise as much money and get as many donations as possible.
“There’s no limit to what these kids can accomplish and do good in their community as they grow up,” Johnson said. “They just have to have the resources to do that, so we’d love to help them out in this way.”
Organizers hope to raise enough donations to purchase school supplies for all K-12 students in Bryan and College Station ISD.
The Junior League of Bryan-College Station purchased $70,000 worth of school supplies to give to kids who can’t afford them. Additionally, the organization has contributed more than $4 million in direct financial support to the Bryan-College Station community.
