College Station doctor explains why your family may be sniffling and coughing
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Doctors say people have been coming into their offices and hospitals with sniffles and coughing.
There are a few reasons why.
“A few of the things that I got to see, and as well as Dr. Krause recently, is more of the Flu B. We saw a few COVID cases. We also had Fifth Disease, that’s caused by parvo B19, hand, foot and mouth, and a lot of it is seasonal stuff as well,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lee with St. Joseph Health.
Dr. Lee says with illnesses circulating and the start of allergy season, it can be a challenge to determine if you are coming down with something or if allergies are taking a toll.
“That can be a very challenging thing for us because a lot of kids will come in with sniffles,” Dr. Lee said. “Most times it’s viral. We know that it’s allergy season right now. You might also see more of eye itching or runny nose that is worse at night and there hasn’t been a direct exposure to another person who is sick. It can be challenging, but there are subtle differences.”
Dr. Lee says getting plenty of rest and staying hydrated can go a long way for our health during this time.
He says if you don’t see your symptoms start to improve after a couple of days or it worsens, then it’s a good idea to see the doctor.
