City of College Station says no warnings or citations issued related to paid parking program

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The City of College Station’s paid street parking program had its first test run during the Mexico-Brazil soccer match on Saturday.

The city identified over 1,000 potential street parking spots in areas like the Historic Southside Neighborhood, charging $25 for the event. Street parking in the neighborhood previously incurred no charge during football games and other events.

The City of College Station said there were no warnings or citations issued during the match that related to the parking program. However, a few cars were ticketed and one car was towed for unrelated parking violations.

The streets were filled with cars hours before the match started. But not all of those cars were filled with soccer fans, residents with nowhere else to park were also subject to that fee.

”Like it’s just, you all have to pay and I think as a college student there’s for sure not enough funds to pay for parking,” neighborhood resident Andie Brandenburger said.

The QR codes used to pay will be back up for the George Strait concert on June 15.

Brandenburger said she’s worried about if she and her roommates can find parking off the street to lessen the financial burden.

“We’re really gonna have to make sure we can squeeze in, maybe kinda park in the yard and make the driveway a little bit bigger. I don’t know what we’re gonna have to do,” she added.

The city said full data from the paid parking program will be available after the George Strait concert.
