City of Brenham names interim police chief

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The City of Brenham named a new interim police chief Thursday. Lloyd Powell will serve in the position.

He has an extensive background in criminal justice and two decades of service within the Brenham Police Department.

He began his journey in law enforcement after graduating from Brenham High School. He went to Grambling State University where he got a degree in criminal justice. He then got his master’s degree in criminal justice administration at Columbia Southern University.

He first started at the department in 1997 as a telecommunications officer, according to a press release about his new position. He also worked as a patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant and captain.

In January, Chief Ron Parker announced his retirement. He was in law enforcement for over 35 years.
