Chrissy’s Closet in need of donations

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A program dedicated to providing College Station ISD students with free clothes, desperately needs donations.

Chrissy’s Closet is part of CSISD’s Education Foundation and it has served the community since it was founded in 2016. According to the program around 5,710 students might not have the necessities to come to school “clean, warm, and ready to learn.”

The program’s namesake, Chrissy Hester said what they need right now is kid’s clothing sizes 8 and up.

“We have been blessed to get lots of donations over the years, but our stuff goes very quickly,” Hester said. “We are in need of children’s clothes. We served children Pre K through 12 and we need clothing.”

One item they always need is shoes.

“We let them get one pair of new shoes a semester. We purchase those from donations we get. But we love used shoes too because we keep a tally and you can get all the used shoes you can get,” Hester said.

Those who want to help out, but don’t have clothes to donate can also donate money.

“We buy underwear and socks, we buy shampoo and condition. We have toiletries, deodorant, dish wash pads, that kind of thing,” Hester said.

She says that the program has become “hugely important” for the community and it helps students do their best in the classroom.

“If you feel good about how you look you’re going to learn better you are going to feel good about yourself and you’re going to be a better learner,” Hester said. “We know as we’ve grown as a district we have families with needs and we wanted to help them out to make sure all children are at their optimum level and ready to learn when they come to school.”
