Central Texas rancher says balloons released over her property resulted in deer suffering injuries

CRAWFORD, Texas (KWTX) – Deer at the Four Generations Ranch ended up with gashes all over their faces, and the owners say it was not from a predatory attack, rather, from balloons.

On Saturday, May 18, the owners at the ranch were feeding the animals when they found them with marks on their faces and their “hearts pumping.”

The ranch owners told KWTX someone released balloons that ended up floating over the deer pen on their property.

That’s when the deer reportedly became frightened and ran into the fence, suffering injuries in the process.

The owner of a ranch in Crawford, Texas says someone released balloons that later frightened her deer, causing them to injure their faces on a fence.

The owners say this is the second time in less than eight months that the animals have been “traumatized” by balloons.

They’re asking Central Texans not to release balloons because the animals can eat them, and because it also scares them.

“Find alternative methods of celebrating, whether it be releasing butterflies or something else but, you know, if you do have a party in your backyard, make sure they are tied down securely, or when the party is over, deflate the balloons and throw them away,” said Daneya Meyer, the co-owner of the Four Generations Ranch.

The owners said three deer suffered injuries but are now healing.
