Celebrate Fat Tuesday with ‘Mardi Party’ at Shipwreck Grill in Bryan
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The owners of Shipwreck Grill in Bryan are preparing for another fun Fat Tuesday event.
“Mardi Party” is scheduled for Feb. 13.
“Our tagline is Mardi like a pirate,” said Mary Beckman, Shipwreck Grill co-owner. “I am from Southern Louisiana and when we moved here, we couldn’t take time off to go back to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I decided let’s have our own Mardi Party and so we have done it every year since the first year we were open.”
Mary says there will be a true Mardi Gras vibe.
“We hand out beads. We have lots of food. Come hang out with friends and just celebrate like they do in Louisiana,” she said.
One thing that will be different this year is there won’t be crawfish to purchase.
“Super unfortunate year. The drought took its toll on Louisiana like I don’t know that it ever has,” said Wade Beckman, Shipwreck Grill co-owner. “It’s certainly nothing we’ve seen. Crawfish are fairly nonexistent. The price is three to four times what they normally would be if you could get them, which you can’t. They’re kind of keeping them all there, I think, all the ones they have. It’s very hard on the entire industry. It’s hard on those that make money off crawfish every year and our prayers go out to them.”
The Beckmans say there will still be plenty of fun and they encourage everyone to stop by Tuesday.
“Come out, meet some people in your community. You’re going to sit family style. You’re going to get beads thrown at you. You’re going to have some great food and there’s nothing bad,” said Mary.
Shipwreck Grill is located at 206 E. Villa Maria Rd. in Bryan.
