Calvert ISD’s lone superintendent finalist shares plans ahead of final approval
CALVERT, Texas (KBTX) – A familiar face in Calvert ISD may be taking on a higher position.
Latisha Crockett-Tennell has been named the district’s lone superintendent finalist. She’s been in the district for nearly three years serving as the K-12 principal and the interim superintendent since November 2023.
She said being named the lone superintendent finalist was the best fit.
“Any organization, with constant change, it doesn’t grow and so I’m already here, I was the principal,” Crockett-Tennell said. “The students are familiar with me. The community knows me, the teachers, so I just want to continue without the tear, without the stop. Let’s just continue the work with someone familiar.”
If receiving final approval from the district’s board of trustees March 18, her top priority is to build student, parent and community relationships.
“Those are most important to me,” Crockett-Tennell said. “I really believe that anything else will fall in line. We’ll put the systems in place, but I want all of my staff to know, I want the students to know and I want the community to know I’m here to serve them.”
The lone superintendent finalist said she plans to do this with campus activities and one-on-one meetings with students and staff members among other things.
If approved, Crockett-Tennell’s appointment would also be historic.
“We have had an African American in this seat as the superintendent but not an African American woman, and I owe that all to God because this place and this time was already predestined for me, and I’m truly humbled by it,” Crockett-Tennell said. “I’m very excited.”
With all of this in mind, Crockett-Tennell said she’s ready to hit the ground running and continue the work that’s already been started.
“I’m humbled,” Crockett-Tennell said. “I am excited. I’m a servant leader, and I’m just excited to continue the work.”
