Bullet-resistant glass demonstration replaces ribbon cutting to celebrate new business
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A unique Bryan College Station Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting Friday celebrated a new business in town.
CoolVu provides a way for people, businesses and groups to improve security and cut down on energy usage. The national franchise was opened locally by Clayton Summerall and Chris Baker who have hit the ground running.
They provide window tinting, glass films to slow down intruders and even 40-millimeter glass that can stop bullets. So far, the group has provided services to improve security at 145 schools across the Brazos Valley. This includes all 19 College Station ISD campuses.
“We want to make sure that our community is safe and that starts with our children. It works for our police officers, EMS, firefighters…We are the ones that are going out and stopping the UV, stopping the heat for the firemen, you know, and then go into the police station and putting on ballistic-rated products,” Summerall said.
This ribbon cutting didn’t come with scissors, instead local leaders and Summerall used hammers and bats to demonstrate how the various safety glass works. One shattered instantly, which was just a typical piece of glass. The last one was to slow down intruders, this broke after many tries with a hammer but still was not shattered. The middle option is what College Station Mayor John Nicols got a chance to test out. This showed just how tough the bulletproof glass was, using a sledgehammer to try and break through without success. So did each and every attendee to try after him.
“I wouldn’t make a very good burglar as I said because I couldn’t break that and I see nobody else has broken it after me and there’s the other two products that are much thinner they break but they still can’t get through,” Nichols said.
