Bryan Fire using building near Downtown as training for search and rescue
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Before Brazos County tears down the old Bryan ISD Administration building on Texas Avenue near Downtown, Bryan Firefighters are using the building for training.
Several tools are being used to simulate a real fire and victim rescue situation. This will include the use of smoke, the appearance of fire and sounds from victims screaming for help.
“In real life, it puts a lot of stress on the body, you know, just the noises, the heat, and the low visibility, and the physical actions that you have to take, haul the hose lines through the building and around corners. so getting the guys to feel that sense of the reality of what a real situation like this would be is paramount in training,” Chris Lamb, the BFD Public Information Officer, said.
Lamb says they’re rotating different crews to train while maintaining enough firefighters at area stations to respond to actual emergencies. Training will continue through the day and night over the next two weeks.
