Brenham Elks Lodge hosts Memorial Day bash and fundraiser

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brenham Elks Lodge hosted a Memorial Day bash with a purpose Monday. The event was organized by its sweetheart committee. Attendees enjoyed food, swimming, a cake walk and a raffle.

The money raised will go toward the Texas Elks Camp and other grants for children with special needs.

However, the Elks Lodge doesn’t just support this cause. They also dedicate fundraising toward veterans.

Members of the lodge said giving back to the community while remembering those who served made the event especially meaningful.

”It means a great deal to all of us as Elks, they’ll say, ‘that’s what we do.’ That’s one of the main reasons we joined Elks, for the veterans and for our special needs children community,” Clayton Wallace, Vice President of the East District, said.

For one member in particular, Monday’s fundraising hits especially close to home.

“Special needs kids have a very tender significance in my heart,” sweetheart Alyson Hancock said, ”I was born with ocular albinism, so I only burn, I don’t tan. So I was treated a little differently and I just want to help where I can, and this is a good place where I feel like I am.”

In 2023 the Brenham Elks Lodge raised nearly $40,000 for children with special needs.
