Brazos Valley Food Bank and Producer Cooperative discusses Summer Hunger Food Drive

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – On Wednesday, the Brazos Valley Food Bank and Producer Cooperative Association came on The Three to discuss the ongoing Summer Hunger Food Drive.

The Summer Hunger Food Drive is a partnership between KBTX and the Brazos Valley Food Bank to help address the growing hunger need during the summer months.

You can drop off food or monetary donations at five locations across the Bryan-College Station during June. Those locations are George’s Paint & Body, Paradowski Law, Producer’s Cooperative, Aggieland Outfitters, and Douglass Auto Group.

Ebony Knight with the Brazos Valley Food Bank said some families have difficulties providing during the summer and it’s hitting even harder thanks to inflation.

“Daycare costs might be increasing because kiddos are needing to be in daycare for longer hours, and in addition to that all over support has gone down during the pandemic, however the need of food resources has increased since the pandemic,” Knight said.

Producer Cooperative will be keeping its doors open late on Wednesday until 7 p.m. accepting monetary or canned goods.

“Producer Cooperative is agriculture and agriculture in essence is food so it makes us feel wonderful to be able to take it from the farm to the family and just be a part of giving back to the community,” Hope Bay with Producers Cooperative said.

Food items such as peanut butter, cereal, canned fruit and veggies are some of the items they are looking for.
