Brazos Valley clubs come together for free Narcan distribution, training this Saturday

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Rotary Clubs of Bryan-College Station and Texas A&M Center for Community Health and Aging are holding a Free Narcan Distribution Event this Saturday.

Kory Ashcraft from the Bryan Rotary Club and Dr. Ninfa Pena-Purcell from Texas A&M joined First News at Four on Wednesday.

Dr. Pena-Purcell said Narcan is easy to administer to reverse an opioid overdose and can save lives.

“What is stemming these problems with fentanyl is these contaminated pills. So these pills are manufactured to look just like prescription drugs. So your teen or an individual can take it thinking it’s Adderall or it’s some prescription drug, but it’s been contaminated with fentanyl,” she said, “What’s so scary is that only two milligrams, which is like on the tip of a pencil, can kill a person.”

Ashcroft encourages everyone to come and get educated and get a kit.

“Parents, educators, counselors, just community members in general.”

The event is on Saturday at 10 a.m. and is being held at LifeChurch on Villa Maria.
