Brazos County official arrested on assault charge
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Brazos County District Clerk Gabriel Garcia has been arrested by Bryan police and remains in the county jail early Saturday afternoon.
It’s unclear when he was arrested, but Garcia, 56, was taken into custody sometime today by the Bryan Police Department and charged with assault causing bodily injury- family violence.
His bond has been set at $5,000.
Details of the arrest were not immediately available and a spokesperson for Brazos County said a statement was being prepared for public release.
We have also contacted Bryan police for more information, but a probable cause affidavit won’t be available for us to review likely until Sunday.
Garcia was re-elected to his position as Brazos County District Clerk in 2022.
The district clerk is elected to a four-year term in a countywide election and his office has the responsibility of filing, docketing, and keeping all paperwork and documents concerned with felony criminal cases, misdemeanor cases, family cases, juvenile cases, tax cases, and civil cases of more than $500. The district clerk’s office also collects fees, fines, and court costs, and manages all funds held in litigation for these cases.
