Brazos County leaders work to address jail staffing concerns

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – During Tuesday’s Commissioner’s Court, leaders discussed how to continue to address staffing concerns at the Brazos County Detention Center.

Commissioners approved a staffing analysis for the jail to look at trends and procedures. The decision comes after a report back in April stated the inmate population of the jail had reached 800 for the first time. During that time, officers worked overtime to ensure that the jail continued to meet state guidelines.

“We have some really good jail folks and I think it’s as efficient as it can get, but you never know someone from the outside may take a look and make some tweaks that might help,” said County Judge Duane Peters.

Judge Peters adds that the hope is to have this process going in the next few weeks.
