Brazos County jury sentences man to life in prison for child sexual abuse
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A Brazos County jury has sentenced a man to life in prison for sexually abusing a child.
In July 2021, a young woman told police that Donald Mims had sexually abused her for eight years, beginning when she was a child. Bryan police were able to corroborate her statement with school records which showed absences that she said occurred on the dates of the abuse, as well as phone messages sent from Mims.
Mims was charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in June 2022. A Brazos County jury convicted Mims on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
The 43-year-old is currently serving a 45-year prison sentence for multiple drug dealing convictions. According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, Mims was one of the most prolific drug dealers in Brazos County.
The judge ordered that Mims will not begin serving the life sentence until he is paroled on his drug conviction.
