Brazos County Commissioner’s PCT. 1 race set for November after runoff election

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Republican candidate Bentley Nettles is headed to the November ballot after winning the Brazos County Precinct One Commissioners race against incumbent Steve Aldrich in Tuesday’s runoff election.

With all precincts reporting the final tally was:

Steve Aldrich (R) 985 votes, 40.59 %Bentley Nettles (R) 1,442 votes, 59.41 %Total of 2,427 votes

The race began with three Republicans vying to be Brazos County’s next Commissioner for Precinct 1, but none of the candidates emerged with more than 50%+1 of the vote needed to win the primary outright.

Steve Aldrich, the incumbent, and Bentley Nettles emerged as the top two candidates in the May primary election defeating challenger and former Mayor of College Station Karl Mooney.

Brigadier General Bentley Nettles, a decorated war veteran and licensed attorney, served as the executive director of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, where he earned accolades for his leadership. With a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law and a Master of Science in Security Studies from the Naval Post Graduate School, Nettles has extensive experience in public service. He is a founding member of Brazos Valley Cares and has held various leadership roles, including serving on the Bryan Texas Utilities board of directors.

It’s unclear if Nettles will have an opponent during November’s General Election after Dr. Maria McCain Shelton, the once Democratic challenger announced she was ending her campaign back in March.

“While it is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of my campaign, I remain committed to serving the community in any way I can,” said Maria McCain Shelton. “I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement I have received throughout this journey.”
