Black business spotlight: Busted Tees

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – As Black History Month continues, it’s important to support the change makers in the Brazos Valley including those in the business community.

One is Shelia McQueen, the owner of Busted Tees. It’s located at 1673 Briarcrest Drive in suite 102-A in Bryan.

She uses her business to elevate Black excellence and culture with shirts, journals, mugs and tumblers among other things.

“I create most of this stuff,” McQueen said. “You can’t walk into a T-shirt place and see the items that I have so that’s what makes us stand out.”

Busted Tees started in McQueen’s garage in 2018. At that point, it was simply a hobby.

“I started out just as a hobby and making stuff for myself and my family and that was it,” McQueen said. “One day I just thought, let’s kick it up a notch.”

McQueen went from having one heat press and one printer to having several machines and an inventory that allows her to produce in bulk.

Before opening the store, McQueen worked in solid waste and real estate. She said opening Busted Tees took a leap of faith and advises other aspiring Black entrepreneurs to do the same.

“I took that leap of faith, and I took it and I ran with it,” McQueen said.” My ideas, my creations, my family was behind me 100% in doing so, and I’m here six years later still at it.”

Moving forward, McQueen hopes to fill her store with more products and expand her clientele.
