Be Remarkable: Walmart store manager praised for his giving spirit for customers and community
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Staff from Bryan Collegiate High School have expressed their appreciation for a Walmart store manager who went above and beyond to resolve an issue last December. The manager’s consistent dedication to helping the community has now earned him the “Be Remarkable” award for this week.
The story begins with an anonymous teacher at Bryan Collegiate High School last year who wanted to give her students a special holiday gift. Sheila Homeyer, another teacher at the school, recounted the incident:
“Well, it started out with a wonderful teacher who knew that there were at least three students who could benefit from money at Christmas. She went out with her own money and purchased three gift cards, then went to Jan to distribute those.”
However, they soon discovered that due to a technical glitch, the gift cards had no money loaded onto them. With only 45 minutes before the students were to be let out for the holiday break, Sheila and Jan McCall rushed back to the Walmart on Briarcrest, where they were greeted by manager Larry Beavers.
“He could not have been nicer,” said Jan. “He said, ‘Well, let’s hurry. Come on over.’ I said, ‘Well, I have all the information.’ And he said, ‘Why wouldn’t I just believe you?’ I thought, nobody says that. That was so sweet.”
We later learned that Larry Beavers has a long history of community service. With more than 30 years at Walmart, Larry’s commitment to helping others stems from his deep love for his customers and the community.
“Especially with schools, I know how difficult it is with limited budgets and all that good stuff,” Larry explained. “We’ve helped countless College Station ISD, Bryan ISD, Iola ISD. It’s more about how you feel in helping the community. I’ve been very blessed, so I always think about the best outcome when making decisions.”
The “Be Remarkable” award is a joint initiative between KBTX-TV and Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers.
