Be Remarkable: Carl Orozco and Habitat for Humanity are putting families inside new homes
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – As students return to school, their minds are filled with the usual concerns: homework, grades, and peer pressure. However, for some students, these worries are compounded by the uncertainty of not having a stable home. This harsh reality is one that Carl Orozco, Director of Development at the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, is determined to change.
A few years ago, a significant milestone was achieved on a property in Bryan, where a family received the keys to their new home. This was made possible through a collaboration between the Bryan School District and Habitat for Humanity, an effort that Orozco was deeply involved in.
“This project not only demonstrates what our school system and community can achieve together but, most importantly, it provides critical support to families,” Orozco explained. “This will have a generational impact for them.”
The project required $80,000 to get off the ground, a goal reached through the combined efforts of the school district and Habitat for Humanity. The district places a strong emphasis on philanthropy, one of its core values, and recognized Orozco’s pivotal role in the project.
Carmen Garcia, who works with the school district, saw firsthand the impact of Orozco’s dedication.
“I would describe Carl as funny, energetic, kind, and very selfless,” said Garcia, who was so inspired by Orozco’s work that she joined Habitat for Humanity’s board of directors. “He works tirelessly to create fundraising events, engage with families, and connect with the community to make a difference.”
For his efforts in inspiring others and helping make the dream of homeownership a reality for many, Carl Orozco has been honored with the Be Remarkable award.
