BCS Public Library System hosts inaugural Children’s Literary Festival
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The BCS Public Library System wants to connect the community to notable authors.
It’s hosting the inaugural Brazos Valley Children’s Literary Festival Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Larry J. Ringer Library.
The event’s theme is “Open a book, open a world.”
“It means so many things in terms of making sure that you open a book, read a book, enjoy the love of reading,” library system director Bea Saba said.”
The library system will celebrate with well-known authors including B.W. Van Alstyne, Mary Mize, Sherry Garland, Van G. Garrett, Susan Fletcher and Kwame Alexander.
Each will have a presentation, reading and book signing. In addition, there will be arts and crafts activities to coincide with the authors’ books.
“It’s going to be a fun day,” Saba said. “We have a great author lineup.”
The library system is partnering with College Station’s Hyperbole Bookstore to sell the authors’ books. The bookstore will donate 10% of its proceeds to the Friends of the Library.
The nonprofit is the backbone of the library system, according to Saba. It provides grants to the system that contribute to programs and resources.
