Bass Pro Shop’s Founder awarded with McLane Leadership in Business Award
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Bush School of Government & Public Service honored the founder and lead outfitter of Bass Pro Shops, Johnny Morris.
The event took place at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on Texas A&M University’s campus at 5:30 p.m.
Morris was honored with the McLane Leadership in Business Award.
The McLane Leadership in Business Award is given to an individual for their “outstanding contributions in business and public service.”
Morris is known for his success with Bass Pro Shop, being an influential retailer, and making efforts to conserve wildlife and habitats.
“Mr. Morris had a very close relationship with George H.W. Bush, obviously the namesake of our school. But he also has a national reputation for being one of the leading conservationists. [He] reminds all of us how precious the natural wildlife is and as a fisherman and someone who supports hunting and conservation, it’s really important that our students here internalize those messages to go out into the world,” said Raymond Robertson the Director of Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public at Texas A&M University.
In 1992, the Sport Fishing Institute presented Morris with the Fisherman of the Year Award at a special ceremony with President George H.W. Bush at the White House.
