Audrii Cunningham: Medical examiner reveals cause of death for 11-year-old Texas girl

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRE/Gray News) – Audrii Cunningham, the 11-year-old Texas girl who was found dead this week, died of blunt head trauma, according to a medical examiner’s report.

The Harris County Medical Examiner’s was released Thursday.

According to the report, Audrii died of “homicidal violence including blunt head trauma.”

The 11-year-old girl was found tied to a boulder in the Trinity River after a six-day search that ended Tuesday.

Audrii was reported missing on Feb. 15 after she reportedly did not make it to her school bus stop.

The main suspect in her murder remains in the Polk County Jail.

According to Polk County Jail records, Don Steven McDougal was arrested on Feb. 16 for an unrelated aggravated assault charge. He is now also facing capital murder charges for Audrii’s death.

Cell phone analysis, video evidence, and info received from McDougal led law enforcement to the location where Audrii’s body was found in the river, Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons said.
