Anderson-Shiro CISD students return to as school board hopes to pass new bond
GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Anderson-Shiro Consolidated ISD kicked off its school year Wednesday with lots of smiling faces and shiny shoes. As the new year begins, the district’s school board is gearing up to introduce a new bond to improve the schools.
The superintendent of Anderson-Shiro Consolidated ISD, Sarah Borowiez, told KBTX the district is growing as enrollment is up and they’re ready for a great year.
“We had a great first day of school. We had lots of parents, lots of kids coming in, getting excited to walk to class this morning,“ said Supt. Borowiez. ”Our theme this year is to make this year epic. We want to make memorable moments that are elevated. Moments of pride, insight, and connection.”
The district started a strategic planning process in the spring that the superintendent said is ready to be put into motion.
The district’s school board announced Tuesday that a bond will be on area voters’ ballots this November.
The bond would build a new Elementary School and renovate the current Elementary School, which will shift into a Junior High.
The price tag for those items is about $60 million.
“So we’ve gotten new data, new projections, new cost estimates. All those things that the committee considered and decided what they want to do moving forward,” Supt. Borowiez explained.
Anderson-Shiro voters turned down a $44 million bond focused on the same projects in 2023.
