Aggie Dad returns home from year-long deployment, surprises daughter
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – One Aggie received a big surprise when her father came home after he was deployed for a year.
Saturday during the Aggie baseball game against Auburn, Jamesen Harvey, a student at Texas A&M and member of the diamond darlings, was called out onto the field.
The next thing she knew she saw her dad walking towards her and she took off running.
”It just felt so heartwarming and whenever I jumped into his arms and he was holding me and he was like ‘I’m home, I’m here, I’m home,’ and just like kept repeating that over and over and so it was just very comforting to just have him back safe,” said Jamesen.
Major Rick Harvey was stationed in Iraq and planned the surprise, it wasn’t until Friday that he knew he was for sure coming home. He coordinated with the A&M athletic department, Aggie Baseball, and Aggie Diamond Darlings to surprise Jamesen.
“It felt like a kid waiting for Christmas day. Just that anticipation of just waiting for that exciting moment, and then right when it happened I felt like a kid again. A kid who was excited to open his Christmas presents. That’s the best way I can describe the feeling, just amazing,” said Rick.
Jameson had no idea he was coming and described the moment as surreal.
”They announced overhead at the game ’Jameson say hi to your dad’ and I looked at the big screen and I saw him walking and so that’s immediately when I turned around. It was surreal, it didn’t feel real, it was awesome,” said Jamesen.
Major Harvey got to spend Easter with his family and told KBTX he is going to be in the U.S. for a while.
