Local businesses welcome Aggies back for new school year
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Local businesses said they’re cashing in on the rush of students as a new school year gets ready to start at Texas A&M University.
As students move back in, back-to-school shopping begins.
“Parents are here moving their students back in, getting excited for the school year. Definitely a lot more foot traffic,” Skylar Hinson, events manager at Kendra Scott, said.
From freshman picking out their first Texas A&M gameday gear to students finding the perfect pair of earrings for sorority recruitment, the summer lull is coming to an end.
“It’s been something to see the freshmen come in and just talk to them. See if they’re excited for their majors, and just what their majors are and get to know them,” Beth Ventura, a sales associate at The Warehouse at C.C. Creations said.
It’s the start of a busy season for businesses near campus, who said customers have skyrocketed since move-in began.
“Getting lots of people ready for game days,” Hinson added.
Local businesses have their doors open and their shelves stocked for the returning college crowd.
“It’s been picking up really slowly, but it’s been pretty quickly now in the past couple days,” Ventura said.
It’s an energizing change of pace after the slower summer months, one that means more foot traffic and higher sales as Texas A&M comes back to life.
“We’re very excited. We have lots of fun things planned for the rest of the school year,” Hinson said.
