‘She appreciates life:’ Local woman celebrates 106th birthday
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A Brazos Valley woman celebrated her 106th birthday in College Station Saturday, surrounded by family and friends.
Catherine Clark was born on Aug. 17, 1918. She’s a California native but has lived with her daughter, Pat Clark, in Texas for over a decade.
Multiple generations of Katherine Clark’s family were at her birthday party, including her great-great-grandchildren and her daughter.
Clark is thankful for her family and her health.
“I still have my health, that’s number one,” she said.
Clark’s daughter cited her mother’s health as her secret to living so long.
“She never drove, and that gives her 50 years extra. She walked everywhere. She’s from a healthy attitude. She’s happy,” said Pat Clark.
The mother and daughter attended exercise classes together.
“She would lift four pounds, and the men would look at her and go, ‘We carry four pounds, what are you doing!’ She was 101, lifting four-pound weights,” said Pat Cark.
Many of the friends at the party met Clark and her daughter at exercise class.
Pat Clark says she’s honored to know her mother.
“She appreciates life, that’s what she’s given me,” she shared.
Catherine Clark’s advice for living a long life: “Get out and enjoy the air. Live each day with good food.”
