Affidavit: Man cuts off ankle monitor, assaults two Bellmead police officers during arrest
BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) – Bellmead police arrested a man who cut off his ankle monitor and assaulted two officers while being arrested, an affidavit alleges.
Apolonino De Los Santos, 38, is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, tampering with an electronic monitoring device, fugitive intentionally giving false information and two counts of evading arrest/detention.
On Aug. 14, police performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of La Vega Street and Wheeler Street, the affidavit states.
The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle who stated his name was Paul De Los Santos, according to the affidavit.
After police ran the name through dispatch, the affidavit states officers were informed that name was an alias, and his real name was Apolonino De Los Santos who had a warrant and a condition of bond.
Once De Los Santos noticed other patrol units arriving on scene, he stepped out of his vehicle to ask of everything was okay, the affidavit states.
Police then asked De Los Santos to turn around and face his truck, prompting De Los Santos to flee the scene on foot, according to the affidavit.
After a chase, the affidavit states police were able to catch De Los Santos.
While attempting to arrest De Los Santos, the affidavit alleges he punched one officer in the chest and kicked another in the legs.
Once De Los Santos was arrested, the affidavit states police took him to a hospital for medical clearance.
While at the hospital, De Los Santo admitted to police that he cut off his ankle monitor that was placed on him as a condition of bond, according to the affidavit.
De Los Santos was taken to the McLennan County Jail where he is being held on bonds totaling $29,000.
