Somerville ISD prepares for new school year: ‘Everybody has a vital role to play’
Somerville, Texas (KBTX) – In Burleson County, the Somerville School District is preparing for the start of class this week.
The district will begin its school year on Wednesday where the halls will be filled with students.
Teachers have been at training the last week-and-a-half, and some district staff spent the last day of summer getting CPR certified.
“We just thank our teachers and staff and principals, all of our administrators. Everybody has a vital role to play in the work in getting ready for the first day of school,” said Somerville ISD Superintendent Eric Holton.
The high school’s Principal Steven Toliver told KBTX, “What I’m looking forward to tomorrow (Wednesday) is seeing kids’ faces, especially as we welcome them into the Yegua Center; we have a quick assembly when the year starts. I just want to be able to look into the bleachers and see my eighth graders, ninth graders, 10th graders, 11th graders, and 12th graders.”
Supt. Holton added that his staff is excited to implement their new strategic plan this school year, helping them be effective in areas of talent, student academic experiences, and building instructional capacity.
