Over 135 families received back-to-school supplies and clothes at Chrissy’s Closet Back to School Bash
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – With school starting next week for students in College Station ISD, families are shopping for back-to-school items.
Saturday morning, Chrissy’s Closet hosted their Back to School Bash preparing families for the new school year.
This is the eighth year for Chrissy’s Closet to host this event, providing clothing, shoes, and school supplies to families a part of CSISD.
Chrissy’s Closet is a program part of the CSISD Education Foundation that helps students and their families feel positive about themselves and attending school.
“We’re pushing 40% of low-income families and so there is a huge need right in our backyard right around us every day that we have kids that need help and need assistance. So we’re here to provide items for families to feel like they can get their kids ready to go to school,” said Teresa Benden, the Executive Director of CSISD Education Foundation.
Cinthya Guerrero, a mom at the event, said the program helps her save money getting supplies for her 5 kids.
Guerrero told KBTX that shopping for shoes quickly adds up.
“Everything is going up, it’s sky-rocketing so high,” said Guerrero. “One thing that we noticed is just buying shoes a lot, it’s just quite a bit out of pocket.”
But at Chrissy’s Closet Back to School Bash, she was able to find shoes for all of her kids.
“It helps a lot just because I have 5 kids,” said Guerrero.
Chrissy’s Closet Back to School Bash helped families so that every child felt confident walking the halls.
“Our goal is, you know, if you feel good about how you look, you’re going to learn better. So that’s our goal is to help everybody feel okay about how they look and we want to provide that for them,” said Chrissy Hester, a volunteer and namesake of Chrissy’s Closet.
On Saturday, Chrissy’s Closet was able to provide clothing and supplies for over 135 families> They also gave away 325 backpacks with school supplies for students.
