Officer involved shooting in Cameron places nearby school on ‘soft lockdown’
MILAM COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – A Cameron Police Department (CPD) officer was involved in a shots fired incident Wednesday.
In a press release from the Milam County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Sheriff Mike Clore shared deputies responded to the 1500 block of Jackson Avenue after Cameron Police reported a “shots fired” call just before noon Wednesday.
MCSO said a Cameron officer shot at a male, hitting his hand. It is unclear at this time whether or not the man was suspected of a crime.
At the time, Cameron Yoe High School was holding convocation. The school was placed on a soft lockdown but has since been cleared out.
The sheriff’s office has requested Texas Rangers to investigate. Sheriff Clore said there is no danger to the public, per the release.
