Man wanted on human smuggling charges in Uvalde, Texas arrested after police chase in Central Texas
LORENA, Texas (KWTX) – A man wanted by the Uvalde Police Department for smuggling a person under the age of 18 was arrested in Central Texas on July 30 after a police pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Lorena Police Department wrote in a social media post that Chainze Lamar Faheem Wilson is being held at the McLennan County Jail.
Wilson was charged with smuggling of persons under 18 years old, evading arrest or detention in a vehicle, evading arrest or detention on foot, possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
At about 2:45 p.m., Lorena police officers attempted to pull over a driver on I-35 for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle – now identified as Wilson – failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated, police said.
The vehicle continued to flee into Temple, where the driver ditched the vehicle and fled on foot.
Lorena, Troy, and Temple police officers were able to apprehend Wilson within minutes after he abandoned the vehicle.
A Glock handgun with a 30 round magazine and marijuana was located in the vehicle, police said.
“We are thankful no one was injured and the suspect was apprehended without force,” Lorena police said.
