Trial date set for suspected College Station drug dealer, target of deadly Spring Loop search warrant
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A trial date has been set for the suspect at the center of an extensive drug investigation by College Station Police.
Police have described Abraham Escobar as a ‘high level drug dealer.’ The investigation he’s linked to left one person dead in an officer-involved shooting.
On Feb. 8, 2023, police severed multiple early morning search warrants, with Escobar as the main suspect.
One of these warrants was executed at a duplex on Spring Loop where police say one of the residents fired a shotgun at officers. The officers then returned fire, killing the resident — 22-year-old Mark Hopkins. He lived at the home but was not a target of the search warrant or linked to any of the alleged crimes.
Escobar was not found at any of the locations police searched that morning, but he was later arrested in Houston.
In April of 2023, a Brazos County Grand Jury handed up an indictment for Escobar on charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity (x2), Money Laundering, Manufacturing and Delivering (x2), and Possession of Marijuana.
According to online court records, Escobar’s trial is set to begin on Oct. 21, 2024.
At this time he is no longer in custody after bonding out of jail in March 2023.
