Power being restored, clean up continues in Montgomery County
CONROE, Texas (KBTX) – Five days after Hurricane Beryl made landfall, power continues being restored for Entergy customers across Montgomery County.
Trees were thrown into houses and whole lines of neighbors were missing fences. Kathy Baker moved to her new home on Lake Conroe just months ago from Lubbock. She said this wasn’t her first rodeo with wind, she’s used to tornados in North Texas. But this was her first hurricane.
Baker was inside the home with her grandson when a tree in the front yard came crashing down on the front of her house.
“My grandson and I kept hearing the wind and everything and then all of a sudden, crash and see this,” she said.
Baker’s grandson helped remove some limbs so she could access her front door. But the tree will remain until bids can go out to remove it.
At the same time, Baker’s home was without power. She and hundreds of neighbors near Lake Conroe spent the last five days just trying to stay cool. Midday Friday, Entergy restored power for the neighborhood, a welcomed surprise as they didn’t expect to see that until Monday.
“Oh, turning on all the lights making sure the refrigerator is getting cold because now I’ve got to go over to my grandson’s friend’s house to get all the food. And we had bags and bags of food that I needed to bring back to put in the freezer. Once it starts cooling off,” she said. “Thank god. I’ve been burning up but keeping cool, trying to.”
Entergy says they expect power to be restored to all customers by Monday. As of Friday evening, 40,000 customers in Montgomery County remained without power. Over 55,000 total Entergy customers in Texas are still waiting on power.
