Southwest named ‘Official Airline of the SEC’ but don’t expect flights at Easterwood Airport
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Southwest Airlines and the Southeastern Conference are pushing out celebratory messaging on Wednesday to announce a partnership that will have little to no impact on Aggieland.
Southwest announced it has entered into a new, multi-year sponsorship agreement with the SEC to be the “Official Airlines of the SEC” – a deal that officially launched on July 1.
The airline added new routes and additional service surrounding several SEC-centric showdowns, including USC vs. LSU in the Vegas Kickoff Classic, Alabama at Wisconsin in Week 3, Tennessee at Oklahoma in Week 4, and Georgia at Texas in Week 8.
However, there are no planned flights in or out of Easterwood Airport.
In responding to an inquiry on social media, Southwest Airlines said, “We haven’t announced any new terminals for service, but you can bet we always let our Passengers know when new routes are going to become available, so feel free to check back in the future.”
A corporate spokesperson for SWA also confirmed directly to KBTX that there are no plans currently to add flights out of Aggieland.
“The SEC is pleased Southwest Airlines has joined our official sponsor program,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “The SEC sponsor program is important to the mission of supporting our now 16 institutions and Southwest Airlines makes stronger an already robust family of sponsors for the Conference. We look forward to Southwest Airlines’ participation in our programming and championship events.”
