‘The morale is so high,’ Aggie baseball fans optimistic about new head coach
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Fans of all ages flocked to the Hall of Champions Tuesday to welcome Michael Earley back to Aggieland. He has officially been named Texas A&M University’s new head baseball coach.
Since joining the Aggies in 2021 as a hitting coach, Earley helped lead the team to two College World Series appearances, and most recently, the finals.
Athletic director Trev Alberts and Texas A&M president Mark Welsh both said they’re excited for the future of the baseball program, recognizing his efforts alongside the efforts of the baseball team in Omaha.
”We have so much talent, so much leadership that we really have the pieces, and I think we have one of the best shots out of any team,” junior Jake Foster said.
Several fans at Earley’s welcome celebration said they think the Aggies could win it all next year with Earley leading the team.
”He took them so far and we think he can do it again,” Allison Windham, an Aggie baseball fan, said. “The morale is so high and we just hope for all the best.”
Fans said it’s not just about liking Earley, they believe in him and his ability to lead the team to more wins.
“He really is trying to build an interpersonal relationship, not just baseball, which really helps,” Foster said.
Former head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s departure prompted several players to enter the transfer portal, but some of those have since backtracked.
It’s sending a strong message to supporters.
“Hearing everything that players had to say about Earley made me feel just so much better. And the fact that so many people are coming back, and just, it feels great,” Foster added.
Earley was a record-setting hitting coach for the Aggies, including a program-record 134 home runs in the 2024 season.
