Tropical Storm Chris forms in the far southern Gulf of Mexico
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – After hurricane hunter aircraft found tropical storm strength winds, Chris gets a name just ahead of landfall in Central Mexico.
Chris is the third named storm of a young 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Chris will weaken gradually overnight and dump heavy rain over portions of Mexico, but high pressure and a westward steering wind over the southern US will keep most of, if not all the moisture from Chris away from the state of Texas.
Beryl continues to be the main focus of the season so far. The historic storm is set to impact the southern Windward Islands early this week, with a westward path across the Caribbean Sea after that.
