Michael Earley becomes next Texas A&M Baseball coach

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Former A&M assistant Michael Earley has been selected as the new Texas A&M head baseball coach.

Earley was the hitting coach under Jim Schlossnagle in his three years as head man of the Texas A&M Aggies. Schlossnagle left for Texas upon returning from Omaha. He took his staff with him including Earley. Both Nolan Cain and Max Weiner will stay with Schlossnagle in Texas.

“I am happy to announce that Michael Earley has been hired as our new Aggie baseball head coach,” Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. “Michael is a very talented coach and recruiter, but what stood out to me was his character and the relationships he has built with his current and former players. During our interview process he was really impressive. I think it helps that he knows our current roster, which finished second in the country, and he also knows Aggieland and the 12th Man. I am excited about the future of Aggie baseball. Please help me welcome home Michael and his family back to Aggieland.”

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity,” said Earley. “Thank you, General Welsh and Trev Alberts for putting your trust in me. Being a part of this University and this program are a dream come true. I will not let you down. See you in Omaha!”

“Michael Earley is talented, hard-working, and absolutely committed to Aggie baseball,” President Mark A. Welsh III said. “Not a bad combination when you consider the huge support he has from his players. Add in the street cred he enjoys across collegiate baseball as a position coach, hitting coach and recruiter, and you realize we now have a budding superstar leading Aggie baseball. I’d like to thank Trev Alberts for the hard work leading to this hire. I’d also like to thank our incredible Aggie baseball players for contributing to this search in such a respectful and impactful way. Finally, welcome home Coach Earley. We’re all behind you.”

Earley brings a hitting pedigree that includes 2 top-5 finishes in team home runs, including a program record of 134 home runs in 2024. Before his role at Texas and Texas A&M, Earley was an assistant for Arizona State.

Under Earley’s guidance in 2024, the trio of Braden Montgomery, Gavin Grahovac and Jace LaViolette became the first group of teammates in program history to each surpass 20 home runs in a single season. LaViolette also became the first player in Texas A&M history to record back-to-back seasons with 20 or more homers.

The Texas Longhorns have replaced Earley and re-hired Troy Tulowitzki as its hitting coach.

He’s back! He needs no introduction, but we’ll do it anyways 🤘

Former A&M players already expressed their interest in the Aggies hiring Earley, when he was reported as a candidate. Several current Aggies and Aggie signees have voiced their support for Earley’s hire.

Ali Camarillo was one of several Aggies who entered the transfer portal when Shclossnagle left for Texas, but he has reportedly withdrawn his name from the portal and will return to Aggieland.

One of the best coaches I’ve had the privilege to be around. Speaks volumes when pitchers and hitters have similar things to say about him. Things are about to get real fun in College Station👍🏻 https://t.co/N5zKqKbtsi
