Focus at Four: Political Scientist breaks down first presidential debate

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Thursday night Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden squared off in the first presidential debate ahead of the November 2024 election.

Mike Yawn, a Political Science Professor at Sam Houston State University, joined First News at Four to discuss the debate and who ultimately made the biggest gains or losses with voters.

“I think I probably came away from there like most viewers and most media sources that Biden was the loser last night in terms of voters,” Yawn said. “His performance was not strong and would be difficult to look into that and find encouraging aspects of that.”

Yawn said Biden’s inability to end a sentence early and Trump’s ability to highlight it, played big on viewer’s minds.
