American Red Cross celebrates, honors local volunteers
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The American Red Cross Heart of Texas chapter recently recognized many of its volunteers who help with its mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies.
Among the local volunteers receiving recognition at volunteer appreciation events in Bryan, Waco, and Killeen:
Clara Barton Award – Rick Kattner (Bryan)
Volunteer of the Year – Brian Smith (Bryan)
Extra Mile Award – Daniel Guidice (Ft. Cavazos)
Rising Star Award – Jeb Leutwyler (Waco)
Biomedical Services Volunteer Award – Robin Hamilton (Bryan)
Communications Volunteer Award – Rusty Surette (Bryan)
Disaster Preparedness Volunteer Award – Doris Davis (Waco)
Disaster Response Volunteer Award – Jana Vaughn (Waco)
Operations Support Volunteer Award – Bill Madden (Waco)
Service to the Armed Forces Volunteer Award – Troy Shoaf (Ft. Cavazos)
Volunteer Services Volunteer Award – Varela Yareth (Waco)
Youth Volunteer Award – Adams Family (Bryan)

“The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors, and partners, is always there in times of need,” said Chapter Executive Director Jennifer Young. “From helping during disasters and ensuring access to lifesaving blood, to providing training to save lives and supporting military communities, the Red Cross is there when help can’t wait, and we couldn’t do this without our team of volunteers.”
90% of the Red Cross workforce are volunteers.
