Local students awarded at National Garden Club youth poetry contest

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Recently, the National Garden Club winners in the youth poetry contest were announced.

Jane Cohen, from the Texas A&M Garden Club joined First News at Four on Thursday, along with Fiza Dhosani, won second place, and Ameer Farraj received an honorable mention.

Cohen explained that this is all part of a bigger competition.

“The National Garden Club has several contest areas and I work with poetry. We also have Sculpture Recycle, art, Smokey Bear essays. So there’s several categories, but we had two national winners. We had about 70 students participate locally,” she said.

Dhosani said that the topic of nature inspired her poem, and Farraj said he looked at the world around him and began rhyming different words.
