Somerville man killed in crash with unmarked police car on Highway 6 in Grimes County

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that happened Tuesday morning on Highway 6 at FM 2 in Grimes County.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates the driver of a 2018 Mercedes Benz SUV turned right onto SH 6 from FM 2, attempted to change lanes, and struck a 2024 Dodge Ram 1500, a Hempstead Police Department unmarked vehicle, that was traveling southbound on SH 6.

The Mercedes then left the roadway into the center median and overturned.

The driver of the Mercedes, Derrick Coleman, 48, of Somerville, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Grimes County Justice of the Peace Mark Laughlin.

The driver of the Dodge was not injured.
