Omaha bar helps give back to CWS universities’ food pantries
OMAHA, Nebraska (KBTX) – It’s an off day for the Texas A&M baseball team in Omaha at the College World Series.
The Aggies are awaiting the winner of the Kentucky and Florida game, but that matchup has been postponed to Thursday morning at 10:00.
While the games are being played at Charles Schwab Field, just across the street there’s another contest.
At Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina fans are able to support their team and local charities outside the ball park.
It’s known as the official Jell-O shot Challenge, and it started in 2019.
All eight teams are listed on a leader board at the bar. Each shot is $5 and $1 of each shot goes to a universities’ food pantry.
A&M is behind Tennessee currently, but the Aggies sit fifth all time and counting.
“People care and people throughout the nation want to know and it’s just a fun thing that we do,” Pat McEvoy, Manager of Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina said. “It’s for a good cause, so people want to follow along. People that don’t even love the baseball still want to do this thing and we think that’s pretty neat.”
Fun fact the last three teams that won the College World Series also won the Jell-O Shot contest.
“The Aggies are doing well. They came through in force yesterday.”
