Juneteenth events in the Brazos Valley
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Juneteenth is on Wednesday. It is a federal holiday was designated as such in 2021.
The City of College Station will have two events this Tuesday. The Juneteenth Celebrate Freedom Walk starts at the Lincoln Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and ends at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum. Later at the Lincoln Center, a documentary highlighting the first black families in College Station will be shown at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday is the Juneteenth Gospel Festival at the Neal Recreation Center. Those interested can join the Juneteenth Committee of the Brazos Valley African American Heritage and Cultural Society in a celebration filled with song, praise and dance from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Then on Saturday watch the Juneteenth parade from Kemp-Carver Elementary School to Sadie Thomas Memorial Park. There will be a celebration in the park following the parade until 3 p.m. Later that night from 6:00 to 10 p.m. is the Blues Fest in Downtown Bryan.
The city of Navasota will host its Juneteenth celebration on Saturday at City Hall. There will be a D-J, games, an inflatable slide, snow cones and food trucks. It will happen from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
